Majakivi-Pikanõmme hiking trail

The 7 km long trail is located in the western part of the national park, in the middle of the Juminda peninsula. The trail starts at a parking lot, next to the Hara-Juminda road, on the east side of the peninsula. There’s a wooden path and a tower for sight-seeing as well.

It goes through the high middle part of the peninsula, where the historical beaches, sand dunes, forests, and swamps have altogether provided a unique landscape. Next to the trail you can find Estonia’s third biggest boulder – Majakivi.

Juminda cape

The tip of the Juminda peninsula, also known as Juminda cape, located on Estonia’s north coast, between Kolga and Hara bay, is very interesting; the tip of the cape continues underwater as a chain of rocks, which even move during bigger waves. Around the tip the water stays shallow for some time. It’s possible to take the car almost up to the sea.

Nowadays you can find a World War Two memorial at the cape, dedicated to the people who died and ships that sunk during the Juminda battle. The memorial is made of empty mines. Near to that you can find Juminda’s camping spot and lighthouse, which both offer the possibility to make a fire.

Muuksi stronghold hill

Muuksi stronghold hill was established on a naturally suitable cape. Above the stronghold, the west side rises up to 10 m high. Its main purpose was probably bay watch and serving as a lighthouse. On the northern side, the stronghold hill area was protected by the naturally high and steep foreland, on the south side there was a rounded stone wall. The stronghold’s courtyard is nowadays surrounded by a partially preserved low wall. Muuksi stronghold hill offers a beautiful view on Kolga bay and the surrounding nature.

Archaeological excavations have found out that the place was founded in the first millennium BC, the castle was built at the end of prehistory, and some of the findings probably originate from 11. – 13. Century.
